Parents have been issued an urgent warning over "highly malicious rumours".

School have issued warnings to parents in the Wallasey area after reports a Snapchat group has been made called "Wirral rumours/whispers". It is believed anonymous posts are being sent around, naming children in Wirral schools.

Home addresses have also reportedly been sent around. A newsletter has been sent to parents from the Mosslands School in Wallasey warning them to be vigilant.

However, the ECHO understands there are several schools in the area that have also sent out similar warnings. In a newsletter, seen by the ECHO, it described the social media group as "extremely concerning and illegal".

It reads: "We have been made aware by several parents and students that a 'Wirral Rumours/ Whispers' Snapchat group has been made. This seems to be a Wirral wide issue and not confined to just our school.

"Students are added to this group without their consent and all posts are anonymous. Highly malicious rumours are being spread naming children in Wirral schools. Additionally, exact addresses are provided under 'egg this house', again anonymously, but the addresses are real. This is extremely concerning and illegal.

"We urge you to speak to your sons and wards and to check their online activity regularly. We will follow this up in school with assemblies on online safety and the new legislation in the 2023 Online Safety Act.

"Please do report any suspicious activity to the police/CEOPS."
