According to BBC Weather and The Met Office, temperatures are set to get a lot warmer next week.

In some parts of the UK, temperatures will reach up to 16°C which is 'record-breaking' for January. This week, Storm Joceyln caused disruption across Merseyside as a yellow wind warning was issued by the Met Office.

It was the second storm to hit Liverpool in a week, as Storm Isha caused chaos across the country with dangerous strong winds. That's all set to change next week, as experts have explained that the UK will experience the 'Föhn effect' causing 'incredibly mild temperatures'.

The 'Föhn effect' is a change from wet and cold conditions on one side of a mountain, to warmer and drier conditions on the other, according to The Met Office. Regions under the influence of the Föhn effect will experience warmer, drier climates.

On Twitter, BBC Weather said: "The jet stream is pushing exceptionally mild air across the UK Sunday. Temperatures, egged on by the föhn effect, could reach 16C in parts of north Scotland – not far away from the UK January temperature record that stands at 18.3°C!"

Today, January 28, Merseyside felt a lot milder with bright spells of hazy sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures hit a maximum of 13 °C.

Monday is set to be unsettled with outbreaks of rain, with a drier day on Tuesday. Wednesday will be windy with a spell of heavy rain, remaining mild.
