A warning has been issued to people who walk near lakes and canals as icy conditions hit the region.
Merseyside has been hit with wintry conditions over the past couple of days with temperatures dropping below -3C. On Saturday night a flurry of snow hit many parts of the region. Temperatures are expected to hit below freezing again tonight with a low of -2C.
In a statement released by Sefton Council, they said: "Some of our lakes and canals may become partially frozen in cold weather. Please do not try to walk or skate across the fragile ice that forms. Please stay safe during these cold conditions.''

Other parts of the UK had heavy snow yesterday with a major incident declared in Cumbria following the snowfall.
The Canal and River Trust advice that instead of going in the water to help someone, people should call for help and use a stick or a scarf to reach them. The waterways charity also advises dog walkers to keep their pets on a lead in case they run on to ice, and to never follow their pet on to a frozen canal.
