Warning as bus routes set to change due to Mersey Tunnels closure

People using the Mersey Tunnels are being reminded of disruption this week due to overnight closures.

The Queensway Tunnel will be closed for essential maintenance between 9pm and 6.30am over four days. These will take place on Monday, February 6 until Friday, February 10.

During the closure, the Kingsway (Wallasey) Tunnel will remain fully open in both directions, with people being encouraged to use this instead. Arriva North West has the closure will cause some services to change.

They wrote: "From 06/02 until 09/02, the Queensway Tunnel will be closed for essential maintenance. Services between hours 2100-0630 will use the Kingsway Tunnel and avoid Conway Street."

Merseytravel posted information about the planned closures on itswebsite.

It said: "The Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel will be closed to all traffic on the following nights whilst we undertake essential maintenance work. During the closure of the Queensway (Birkenhead) Mersey Tunnel, the Kingsway (Wallasey) Mersey Tunnel will remain fully open in both directions.

"The above information is currently correct but closures may be subject to change."

Full list of Queensway Tunnel closures includes:

  • From 9pm on Monday, February 6 until 6.30am on Tuesday, February 7
  • From 9pm on Tuesday, February 7 until 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 8
  • From 9pm on Wednesday, February 8 until 6.30am on Thursday, February 9
  • From 9pm on Thursday, February 9 until 6.30am on Friday, February 10
