Leasowe Castle Hotel has been told it needs "urgent improvement" when it comes to food cleanliness and hygiene.
The hotel in Leasowe, Wirral, has been hit with the lowest food hygiene score possible after an inspection last month. Wirral Council published the results of the inspection on its website following a visit from environmental health on December 12, 2022.
Previously the three-star hotel had been rated five out of five for its food hygiene but now it has been told it needs "urgent improvement". The report, broken down into three categories, states the hotel must urgently improve every aspect of the food hygiene system at the hotel.

The first category that is listed is hygienic food handling. The website states: "Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage."
Cleanliness and condition of facilities and buildings is the second category. The website describes this as including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control.
The final category is the management of food safety. This is described as having: "System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future."
When approached to comment on the rating Leasowe Castle declined but did confirm the hotel is "operating as normal with no restrictions".
