A main road is closed in both directions by police after a crash.
Coastal Road, in Southport, is closed between Marine Drive and Shore Road (near to the Pontins roundabout).
Police have asked people to avoid the area, with a spokesperson posting to Twitter: "We are working with other agencies to resolve the situation. Please avoid the area for now."

Debris on the road after a crash
Images from the scene show debris left from an earlier crash involving a BMW. The driver ran from the scene.

Road reopened
The BMW has now been removed and the road has reopened.
Police said enquiries are ongoing to find the driver.

Merseyside police statement
A spokesperson for Merseyside police said:
We received a report of a road traffic collision on the Coastal Road, in Southport, earlier this morning (Thursday 9 February).
At around 2.30am, it was reported that a black BMW had collided with a number of bollards.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the driver had fled the area.

Coastal Road seems clear
Images from the scene, at both ends of Coastal Road, shows that the road appears to be clear.
Police have still got a closure in place however, with the main road being closed in both directions.
The ECHO has contacted Merseyside police for more information about the incident and the closure.

Traffic due to closure
There is slow traffic due to the closure being reported in the area.
The closure is in place between Marine Drive (Southport) and Shore Road (Pontins roundabout, Ainsdale, Southport).
There's also traffic to the A565 as people divert around the closure.
