Peel Ports said this evening the crew member is now said to be stable and receiving treatment in hospital, while an investigation will be launched following the incident.

A spokesperson for Peel Ports said: “An incident occurred onboard a vessel berthed at the Port of Liverpool on Saturday 13 January, in which a third-party crew member was injured. The emergency services attended the scene and the crew member, who is in a stable position, is currently being treated in hospital.

“Our thoughts are with the person involved and their family, as well as ensuring the welfare of the team who were present when the incident occurred. We would like to sincerely thank the team, and the emergency services, for their speedy and professional response.

“A thorough investigation led by the flagged State of the vessel, in conjunction with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) will follow, and our role as the port and statutory harbour authority will be to ensure full co-operation throughout.”
