TUI has confirmed that holidays to Turkey are operating as planned.

The holiday operator wished to reassure customers following recent earthquakes in the country. A 7.8 earthquake hit Gaziantep and neighbouring provinces in the south-east of Turkey on February 6 2023.

On the same day a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the neighbouring province of Kahramanmaras. There were several strong after-shocks. The Turkish government has announced a national emergency in the 10 provinces affected by the earthquake.

TUI said: “We’re aware of the three recent earthquakes in Turkey the cities of Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras and the tremor that occurred near the city of Antakya and the Syria border – all three earthquakes happened in the southeast of Turkey approximately 800km away from the resort of Antalya.

“Our thoughts remain with those affected by the devastating events in Turkey and TUI is supporting humanitarian initiatives in the country, as are the majority of our hoteliers.

“The hotels which were not in operation during the winter season have been opened specifically for this emergency aid whilst closed to customers.

“For customers with holidays booked to Turkey, we can confirm these are currently operating as planned.”
