TUI has issued two warnings to customers travelling abroad this summer.

The first warning detailed potential strikes at Gatwick Airport. Last Friday, almost 1,000 workers at Gatwick Airport, including baggage handlers and check-in staff, confirmed plans to strike in a dispute over pay.

Strikes, staff shortages and air space closures related to the war in Ukraine mean air traffic control providers are limiting flight numbers across Europe, with flight numbers from major airports such as Gatwick being capped.

Issuing a statement, TUI said: "We are aware of the announcement from Unite about prospective strikes between Friday, July 28 and Tuesday August 1, and between Friday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 8.

"We are currently working with Gatwick to ascertain any potential impact on our customers. We would like to reassure our customers that we will be in touch with them directly once we have any further information."

A second warning about extreme weather was further issued by TUI on Monday, July 17. Italy is braced for extreme temperatures of up to 48 degrees in some areas and wildfires are raging in Greece and Spain.

Reassuring customers, TUI said: "We would like to reassure our customers that high temperatures in holiday hotspots are not uncommon at this time of year and it is always important to take sensible precautions, such as staying hydrated and avoiding direct sun between 12pm to 3pm."
