Tributes have been paid to a mum who ‘fought for justice for all’.
Wendy Eves, from Wallasey, worked as a solicitor for MSB, a firm with an office in Liverpool city centre. She had been diagnosed with stomach cancer, and died on 19 January 2024, aged 64.
Paying tribute, her colleague Emma Carey described her as a “role model” who dedicated her life to helping others. Emma, 53, from south Liverpool, said: “I went to law college and met Wendy while she was there. She was calm and a good listener. Her skills were one of empowering people.”

Wendy started working as an office junior in a law firm before going back to law college to train in her late twenties with two young children. Emma said: “Who she was as a person, is what we aspire MSB to be.
“It symbolises social mobility, breaking down barriers and making the law accessible. She went back, studied and excelled in her career. And she never forgot that. She mentored and supported everybody.
“She was my biggest mentor and certainly my biggest cheerleader. But she was also a role model. She was there to make people believe they can do it.
“She had a passionate determination to ensure that there was access to justice for all. Wendy would be the person who, when a client came in, and we thought, we won’t be able to get legal aid for this person, she would fight for legal aid and representation.
“She was just genuinely a kind, giving person that showed respect to everybody and believed everyone should be treated fairly, on a professional level but on a personal level as well.”
Wendy was forced to retire due to her cancer diagnosis, but she was able to spend time with her family before her death. Emma said: “She fought every step of the way and we supported her every step of the way.
“One of the hardest things was her realising she did need to retire. But she had a beautiful family and they were the priority. She fought until the very end. It’s very special that she had this last Christmas together with her second grandchild – it was their first Christmas. The way she has fought for justice for people, she fought her battle with cancer.”
Another MSB solicitor, Marie Carden, died of breast cancer last year. The business worked with charities after Marie’s death, and are now planning a similar tribute to Emma.
“We always have charity of the year. In the next year, we want to concentrate on local charities for people and their families.
“Her legacy is that she mentored and supported her junior staff. She mentored entire career. It's important that we do something to support the next generation of lawyers. We’re going to launch a work experience programme because of this.
“The news is so raw and we haven't loads of time to reflect, but we will be taking ideas on charities to support.”
