Throwback photos show Merseyside's Pontins holiday camp as it looked 50 years ago.
Last month, Pontins in Southport announced the decision to close the holiday park with "immediate effect". The post read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Pontins Southport Holiday Park. After assessing the future viability of the park, we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors.
"Unfortunately, this means that Pontins Southport Holiday Park will be closing from Wednesday 3rd January 2024. Customers whose bookings will be affected by these closures will be contacted by our team and refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

It's fair to say that the holiday camp in Ainsdale, owned by Britannia Hotels, has over recent years come under fire after a string of stories concerning conditions and guest behaviour. But despite this, it has made a considerable contribution to Southport's economy through the generations, with many families from the region and beyond heading there, the MEN previously reported.
Built in 1970 at the height of the British Holiday Camp industry, these brilliant photos offer a glimpse into Southport Pontins half a century ago. Over a decade ago, a Pontins brochure from 1972 was bought on eBay and uploaded to oldcolorimages.com's Flickr account and the ECHO previously shared a number of images featured.
Here, you can see everything from activities and events to inside the chalets and the pages as they were printed. To find out more about oldcolorimages.com's archive, click here.
