ITV's Anne Hegerty has spoken of how she worries she isn't always as fast as the other chasers on the ITV programme.

Anne has been a quizzer on The Chase since 2010 and has also appeared on ITV's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2018. However, despite her famed appearances on TV, she confessed to ECHO reporter Ryan Paton that she does still worry about her ability.

She was at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral for the National Diversity Awards 2023 which celebrates the achievement of the positive role models who have promoted equality in today's society. The 11th edition of the ceremony was hosted by Clare Balding.

On the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, Anne discussed her career on The Chase and compared herself to the other chasers. She said: "I think of myself as slow. Compared to most people I'm quick, compared to most quizzers I'm quick.

"Compared to most chasers, I am the sixth fastest out of six. We've got a series of Beat The Chasers in the can. When it goes out, I know people are going to be saying is Anne's buzzer broke?

"I keep reaching and trying to get to the buzzer, but everyone keeps beating me. But I always worry I'm going to go slow and I'm getting slower because I'm the oldest chaser. So I worry about that so it's always nice when regardless of what the actual target was, it's nice when we catch it.

"Who knows? I'd love to do a bit of acting. I know there's rumours about people who would like me to do a bit of acting but the money's not there or I just never hear anything back. Mostly I just think the money's not there."

She also praised host Bradley Walsh and said he is "just the same off screen as he is on" as well as revealing it is almost time for the chasers to resume filming again.

She added: "We stopped filming in March and we start again in the beginning of October. What you are seeing now is new shows but a lot of them are 2022 because we've not had enough time this year to make new show so there will be shows from 2022 that you haven't seen yet.

"Bradley is ace, he's fantastic. He's so much fun and he's just the same off screen as he is on. Maybe he's just a bit quieter. That's the only difference but he's just the loveliest bloke to work with, he really is."

The awards were not the first time Anne had visited Liverpool, in fact the chaser has a deep-rooted connection to the city. While filming for TV show DNA Journey, Anne and fellow chaser, Shaun Wallace came to Liverpool. Despite initially thinking it would be Shaun who had Scouse roots, it was in fact Anne with the link.

She told the ECHO: "It turned out it was actually about me and my great grandmother's cousin was the deputy chief on the Lusitania. His boss didn't survive, but he did.

"He clung to an upturned lifeboat for four hours and was saved. He gave evidence to the enquiry and was actually the highest ranking engineer to survive. He was a Scotsman. It is a fabulous city and obviously there's lots to see. I was driving here, following the satnav and I thought I can see a Liver Bird."
