Tell us your experience of NHS waiting lists as 250,000 on waiting list for local hospitals

We want to hear your experiences of NHS waiting lists.

This week it was confirmed that there area almost 255,000 people on waiting lists across Merseyside's hospital trusts, with just under 80,000 of those waiting for treatment, consultation or other appointments at the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT).

Throughout the country almost 7.5m people are currently on waiting lists for NHS treatment as the service faces challenge after challenge and severe funding and staffing cuts.

The next largest waiting list after LUHFT was the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS trust, which has over 50,000 on its waiting list. After that it was the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS FoundatioN Trust, with over 40,000 and then the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, with nearly 25,000 people on waiting lists.

The picture is no better for A&E departments, with only around 60% of visitors at the most serious A&E departments being seen within four hours last month, way below the government's target of 76% – itself reduced from 95% in December.

This week Liverpool's overworked junior doctors said that 'soon there will be no one left' as they began five days of strike, fighting for the future of the nation's health service and better pay.

Speaking to the ECHO, one said: "I've been a doctor for 10 years and every year I see it all getting worse. There are now 7.4 million people on waiting lists for treatment – it's just getting worse and we need to do something about it.

"This is about under funding of the service and the staff that has led to the situation we are in."
