Smoke billows from driveway as van burnt out

Smoke was billowing from a driveway after a van was burnt out in Liverpool.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call at 6.19pm on Thursday, July 27, following reports a vehicle was on fire on Walton Breck Road in Anfield. Once the fire service arrived on scene five minutes later they found a white van well alight on the driveway of a home.

Smoke was billowing from the vehicle and two firefighters used breathing apparatus and hoses to begin fighting the blaze. It took crews over half an hour to extinguish the fire completely.

Walton Breck Road was partially closed while emergency services responded to the incident, with Arriva North West tweeting the 26 and 27 services were being diverted. Pictures from the aftermath of the fire show the white van completely burnt out and another vehicle on the driveway with smashed windows.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident at Walton Breck Road, Liverpool on 27 July. Crews were alerted at 6.19pm and on scene at 6.24pm. Two fire engines attended.

"Crews arrived to find one van well alight on a driveway. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began fighting the fire using two hose reel jets.

"Merseyside Police were also in attendance managing traffic. At 6.58pm the fire was extinguished and crews remained on scene to dampen down the area.

"Crews left the scene at 8.04pm."
