A YouTube savvy shopper has declared Costco as “Aldi on steroids” after making her first ever trip to the store.
Lara Joanna Jarvis, a content creator, explained at the start of the YouTube video that she was visiting the wholesale retailer because so many of her 67,000 subscribers had implored her to go. She said: "I'm going for the very first time somewhere that I know you guys absolutely love and I've heard lots about and I feel like it's a really good way of buying in bulk and saving money.”
Lara, who has made more than 500 YouTube videos on shopping, money and lifestyle tips, wanted to buy cakes and other items for her children's birthday parties. Upon arriving at Costco with her friend Lucy, she was shocked to find that the store sells more than just food, according to LatestDeals.co.uk.

Coming to the store straight after the school run, she said: "I've just been told that they do TVs in here, not just food. I thought it was just gonna be a food [store]." Lara went on to discover that the store also sells washing machines, fridge freezers, and even fuel. She was delighted too at diesel being priced at £1.39 per litre, which is cheaper than the UK average of £1.48.
As she explored the store, Lara was amazed by the variety of items available, from giant TVs and washing machines to flowers and wine fridges, and even gold bars for sale. She said: "It's like a bit of an Aldi on steroids.”
Lara was also delighted at the cake selection. She purchased a football cake for her son George and a chocolate fudge cake for her son Henry. Both cakes were large, with the football cake costing £15 and the chocolate fudge cake priced at £11.
In addition to the cakes, Lara also purchased chicken nuggets, flowers, cookies, apple juice, kettle crisps, and non-bio fairy washing powder. However, while accepting that some items at Costco are cheaper than other supermarkets, she warned viewers not to overspend.
Lara said: "Be careful if you don't want to overspend because I think you could easily overspend. Just go in maybe with a budget or what you want to buy and try not to stray from it."
Despite this, Lara enjoyed her first trip to Costco and was impressed by the variety of items available. She said at the end of the video: "My first experience of Costco was quite a positive one. I was quite overwhelmed with it all."
