As part of a new ECHO TikTok series we have been interviewing members of the older generation we've run into on the streets of Liverpool.

The questions, put together by members of the ECHO video team, prompted the 'Scouse nans' to give life advice to not just the younger generation, but share any advice they'd give to their younger selves.

Other questions on the list were asking the nans to share the secrets to a long and happy relationship, as well as asking them their favourite decade to return to if they could.

In the first TikTok episode the ECHO spoke to Hilary, in Williamson Square in the City Centre.

Asked to give advice to her younger self, Hilary said: “Live life to the full. Enjoy life while you can because you don’t know what’s around the corner.”
For the younger generation of Liverpool, Hilary had these words: “Be true to yourself. Don’t take no notice what your mates say, if you don’t think it’s right then don’t do it.

“Don’t go into debt if you can avoid it, because that’s the worst thing you could possibly do. You end up paying more and more and more, with interest, and if you can avoid it, do so. Not everybody can, but if you can, do it.”

Our next nan was Joyce, who stopped for a chat outside the new M&S on Lord Street.

Joyce said she would tell her younger self “to be wiser,” adding: “Follow my head, not my heart. I think I was silly when I was younger. I made a lot of mistakes.”

Our third nan was Marie, who was shopping in Williamson Square. She had sage advice for her younger self.

She said: “Have some belief in yourself. Opportunities come along – challenge them, take them and hopefully go forth.”

To the younger generation of Liverpool, she said: “Just keep on moving on in your own life, with your own life. Keep your own council. Be kind hearted and share back the knowledge of what you’ve got and the nicety of what you have.”
