Road closed and huge police response after incident – live updates

There is a massive emergency response in Wavertree after a house fire this morning.

A road closure is currently in place as officers deal with the ongoing incident. Armed police have reportedly been seen at the scene and around ten police vehicle are there too as well as fire crews.

It is not clear at this stage if anyone was inside the property when the fire broke out. Our reporter is at the scene and we will be bringing you the latest details as soon as we have them.

Ongoing incident

Fire crews are inside the property dampening down and the fire.

All persons have been accounted for and utilities to the flat affected have now been isolated.

Further checks are being carried out inside the building by the Fire Service. Merseyside Police are also at scene.

One person taken to hospital

North West Ambulance has confirmed one person was taken to hospital following the fire.

Confirmation of tonight's incident

A fire broke out in a flat on Wellington Grove.

Three fire engines arived at the scene at around 11.35pm.

In a statement, a spokeperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: On arrival crews were met with a first floor flat well alight. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) entered the property with two hose reel jets to fight the blaze while additional fire service personnel gathered information regarding other occupants and searched the property."
