Return of Aussie Whites celebrated as city centre pub hosts relaunch party
It was feared that the famous beverage would not return
The return of an iconic Scouse drink was celebrated last night.
Yates's Aussie Whites is a white wine which includes grape brandy giving it a strong and fruity taste. The 17.5% drop could be enjoyed on its own or as part of a Blob – the drink which lends its name to city centre pub The Blob Shop.
Yates's Original Australian White Liqueur Wine, to give it its full name, has been a popular choice in Merseyside pubs for generations. However, last month, it transpired that the drink had been quietly discounted. The ECHO discovered that Artisanal Spirits from Halewood, who bought the Aussie Whites brand from Yates' for £1m in 2003, had not been producing the drink for several years. Stockpiled supplies of the drink in Merseyside pubs were starting to run low, with the Blob Shop unable to serve their signature drink made from Australian fortified white wine, lemon, sugar, and boiling water, which gives the pub its name.

Thankfully, on January 19, wholesaler Parfetts announced it would be stepping in to make Aussie Whites and distribute it to bars and off-licences in the city. Last night, people celebrated its return at an Aussie Whites relaunch party at The Blob Shop. The iconic venue on Great Charlotte Street was given an Australian makeover and Drag Queen DJ Dixi Tucker provided entertainment on the night.
The ECHO was there to capture the best pictures from the spectacular relaunch party, as staff donned cork hats and customers enjoyed a glass or two of Aussie Whites.
