People have been left without power after police closed off a road in Kensington.

This morning, people living in the Onslow Road area were woken up by 'a lot of noise' and found a large police and emergency service presence outside their homes.

One woman who lives on the road said she couldn't make 'a cup of tea' due to a power cut and told the ECHO she woke up to find 'a load of vans' and police and firefighters on the scene. She said there was 'no traffic going down the road', adding: "Everyone is out of their houses. It's blocked off."

This morning police confirmed they attended an underground fire on the road after it was spotted at around 2.30am by firefighters who were on another call out. They confirmed road closures are currently in place at Onslow Road and Prescot Road.

The fire has caused disruption to gas and electricity supplies to a number of homes in the area and could take several hours for the issue to be fixed. Firefighters remain at the scene with Cadent and Scottish Power who are working to assess the damage and fix the situation.

Diversions are currently in place, with motorists advised to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with.
