People were evacuated after a fire broke out inside a flat.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to Smithdown Place in Mossley Hill at around 5.20pm today after a blaze was reported. When firefighters arrived at the scene they found a flat above a shop was on fire.
It is understood the fire was in a flat above the Tony Slavin hair salon. Penny Lane was blocked off in both directions by police as emergency services dealt with the incident.

People were also evacuated from the adjacent properties. Pictures of the scene showed black soot covering the inside of the flat and a number of firefighters at the scene.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an incident on Smithdown Place, Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 5.11pm and three fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived on scene at 5.21pm.
"This is a three storey property consisting of a shop to the ground floor with flats above. Fire confirmed to be located to the second floor of the premises. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) were committed with one hose reel jet. Fire Service personnel also evacuated the adjacent properties.
"The fire has now been extinguished. Two firefighters in BA are dampening down and checking loft space of the affected dwelling and the adjacent property for fire and/or smoke spread. Mechanical ventilation is in progress and crews are monitoring any hot spots. The aerial appliance is being set up to monitor the roof of the affected flat."
