Our Liverpool: Aintree opens its doors for the Grand National

Hello and welcome to Our Liverpool.

Only a few hours stand between us and the opening of the first day of the Grand National festival. Thousands of spectators will be getting ready to flock en masse for the first seven races of the festival running today.

One man who'll probably be there already is Barry Pinnington, a veteran bookmaker who has been working the Grand National for the last 30 years. Barry has seen it all over the years at the festival, but said he is now of a dying breed as he spoke to Elliot Ryder about what makes the Grand National so special.

A mum who started out at Greatie Market has spent the last 22 years dressing Liverpool's women for the Grand National. Nikki Whiston has been busy since January preparing the orders from her loyal customers, with each made to order, and has been busier than ever since the pandemic.
