A mum pulled her daughter to safety after a car crashed into the Boots store they were shopping in.

Amanda Bird and her daughter Lacey, 18, were Christmas shopping at Boots in Edge Lane on December 7 when a car drove into the store. The black Volkswagen Tiguan smashed into the front entrance; hitting three parked vehicles outside. Amanda said: "When the car came through the window my daughter froze and I pulled her out of the way because there was glass flying everywhere."

The brave mum said: "We were literally a few seconds before looking at a display in the window if we had stopped to look any longer we could've been hit." Remarkably, no injuries were reported and Merseyside Police have confirmed that the driver passed all roadside medical tests and they do not believe the crash was caused by a medical incident.

Immediately after the crash Amanda was confused about what was going on. The 38-year-old said: "At first I didn't realise what was happening I thought it was a robbery or something. It's just not something you see every day.

"Everyone ran over to check on the driver but my main focus was my daughter I could see she was having a panic attack. We both felt shell shocked that this had happened."

Witnessing the crash has impacted both the mum and daughter significantly. The mum from Knotty Ash said: "Lacey didn't sleep much last night I think she's still feeling a bit anxious. I still feel a bit anxious I went to Tesco today I did feel a bit nervous that something might happen."

Amanda and Lacey had only popped into Boots to pick up a Christmas gift for Amanda's partner James. The carer said: "I didn't end up buying the gift, the staff member was just about to serve us when everything happened."

Merseyside Police are now asking for witnesses and anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact @MerPolCC online using log 465 of Thursday, December 7.
