A mum has been named "Mrs Christmas" after helping families save more than £30,000.
Christmas-mad Shirley McCalle, from Wavertree, started saving all the way back in January and enjoys having more than 30 people at her house to celebrate Christmas. The 62-year-old saves by squirreling away cash throughout the year and also helps others do so as well.
This year, the mum has helped around 30 families save £32,390 with Park Christmas Savings, with every penny going on Christmas presents, decorations and food. Shirley is a Christmas Savings’ Agent for the company.

She said she helps families put money aside with the Christmas savings club and Shirley said she encourages them to set realistic savings targets and supports them through the year.
Shirley said: “Christmas is all about family for me. It’s a stressful time for everyone but I love having my family round the table. That’s why I love getting ahead with saving nice and early, Christmas would be a lot harder for me, my friends and family without Park Christmas Savings.”
She said her drive to help people save comes from personal experience after she found herself financially struggling one Christmas with her son desperate for lots of presents. Her son’s birthday is on December 15, so she said she needs an extra financial boost around the festive period.
She said: “That was the start for me. I wanted to give him the best birthday and Christmas I could. I began saving with Park Christmas Savings 20 years ago and every Christmas since has been financially stress-free.
"Me and my friends have all the vouchers by mid-October which means we can sort out our presents before December so Christmas is a lot less stressful.”
Christmas-obsessed Shirley said her favourite festive film is the first Home Alone and, while she loves giving great gifts, she is also hoping her presents this year are slightly better than last Christmas.
Shirley added: “Last year my family did a Secret Santa and my brother forgot about my present and pinched me a pair of socks from his draw. He definitely won’t be doing that again this year.”
But her favourite thing about the season is spending time with her extended family, with over 30 people making the trip to Wavertree to enjoy Christmas turkey together at Shirley’s.
She said: “It’s the best time of the year, getting to see all the family I don’t get to see. As long as I don’t have to do the washing up.”
