A broken down train at Headbolt Lane station is having a knock-on effect on all services on the Kirkby line.

Merseyrail announced the break-down just before 10pm, with rail replacement buses being put in place between Headbolt Lane and Fazakerley. The line is now running an hourly service between Liverpool and Headbolt Lane, and a 30 minute service between Headbolt Lane and Fazakerley.

Further disruption is expected on the same line tomorrow, January 17, due to a shortage of trains. The usual three trains per hour has been reduced to a 30 minute service.

Merseyrail said: "We expect this to be a temporary shortage and that the timetable will be restored to 3 trains per hour at the start of service on Thursday 18 January. We apologise for the delays and inconvenience this change will cause to our customers."
