Man airlifted to hospital and road sealed off after crash

A man was airlifted to hospital and a road was sealed off after a crash between a car and a scooter.

Merseyside Police were called to the "serious" crash on Market Street in Newton-Le-Willows just before 3pm on Tuesday, October 10. Once at the scene, officers found a red Fiat car and a scooter had crashed on the road between Sankey Street and Stanley Street.

A cordon was put in place by officers as emergency services responded to the incident. The man who was riding the scooter was airlifted to Aintree Hospital following the crash, where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. Road closures were in place on Market Street, Alpine Street, Sankey Street and Crown Street while police dealt with the incident.

People were being asked to find an alternative route and avoid the area.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We are in the early stages of investigating this collision and are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage which may assist our ongoing enquiries."
