Liverpool is still without a Michelin star restaurant.
The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland hosted its annual awards this evening, Monday, as chefs and restaurant owners waited to see if their establishments would be awarded or retain a prestigious Michelin Star.
Before tonight's ceremony, Moor Hall in Aughton had two Michelin stars, while Sō–Lō and The Barn, located in the same Lancashire village, had one. Fraiche in Oxton, Birkenhead also had a star to its name but announced last April it would be closing its restaurant and relocating to the West Midlands.

Liverpool meanwhile was awarded no Michelin stars last year, despite top chefs in the city claiming its food scene was the “strongest it's ever been”. This year 8 by Andrew Sheridan was in the running hoping to claim the elusive prize for the city.
Located on Cook Street in the city centre, it moved to Liverpool in April having previously been based in Birmingham and was soon added to the Michelin Guide's favourite new venues. Andrew previously said he "couldn't say no" when offered the opportunity to come back and bring his dining experience to the city.
At "8" diners are all seated at the same time for a 12 course tasting menu. Guests gather in the dimly lit lounge for drinks and precisely made snacks, before heading downstairs to one of the two eight-seater counters, each with its own chef.
At the awards ceremony tonight, which took place in Manchester, Moor Hall retained its two stars, while Sō–Lō and The Barn still have one star. However, 8 by Andrew Sheridan was not awarded a star, meaning Liverpool’s wait for the prize goes on.
Liverpool was also largely overlooked in the National Restaurant Awards last June, with Manifest in the Baltic Triangle the only venue in Merseyside to pick up an accolade. The full list of Michelin Star Restaurants can be viewed here.
