Live updates as police cordon off Liverpool city centre road over ongoing incident

Police have cordoned off a road in Liverpool city centre due to an "ongoing incident."

The ECHO received reports that Dale Street had been cordoned off around 6am. Officers have put up police tape covering the road from Sir Thomas Street to A5051 Moorfields.

Merseyside fire and rescue service is also in attendance. The ECHO has contacted emergency services for more information about the nature of the incident.

Merseyside fire ad rescue service statement

A spokesperson for Merseyside fire and rescue service said: "[We] are in attendance at an ongoing incident on Stanley Street, Liverpool City Centre.

"Crews were alerted at 02.21 and two fire engines and the search and rescue team were on scene at 02.26.

"An aerial appliance and operational drone have also been deployed to scene. Fire Service personnel are assisting police."

Concern for safety of a woman

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that emergency services are currently in attendance at an incident on Stanley Street, Liverpool city centre following reports of a concern for safety of a woman.

"Emergency services were called at 2.09am this morning and specialist police negotiators are currently talking to the woman.

"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics are also in attended at the scene as a precautionary measure."

Police, fire service and ambulance crews in attendance

Merseyside police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics are in attendance of an ongoing incdent in the city centre.

A number of roads in the area have been closed, these include: Stanley Street which is completely close and Dale Street is closed from Moorfields.

The closure is expected to cause significant disruption for those coming into the city this morning.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Plan your journey and try to leave earlier if you are coming in to the city.

"Officers would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding whilst this incident is ongoing."
