Live updates as emergency services rush to major ongoing incident at Peel Ports

Emergency services are currently responding to a major incident at Peel Ports.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are all at the scene in Seaforth following a major incident.

Eyewitnesses have reported the incident to be a potential injury to a ship's crew member but this has yet to be confirmed.

Charlotte at the scene says that several police cars and a road ambulance have just left the Port of Liverpool

FULL STATEMENT FROM MERSEYSIDE FIRE & RESCUE SERVICE

A spokesperson said: "Fire crews are in attendance at an incident at Seaforth Container Base, Port of Liverpool this afternoon. Two fire engines and the Search and Rescue Team are in attendance. Crews were alerted at 12.00pm and on scene at 12.06pm. Crews arrived to find a person trapped by the legs between two containers, with the casualty conscious and breathing. After a meeting between Fire Service, North West Ambulance, Port Police and Port Staff, a plan was agreed to remove the casualty using hydraulic equipment and airbags. The casualty was successfully released and is now in the care of North West Ambulance Service and receiving medical treatment."

A spokesperson for Peel Ports said: “We are aware of an incident onboard a vessel currently berthed at the Port of Liverpool, details are yet unknown. We are working with the emergency services and our priority at this time is ensuring crew safety. We will provide an update when appropriate to do so.”
