Live updates as emergency services descend on Liverpool waterfront

Emergency services have descended on the waterfront due to an ongoing incident.

A police helicopter was seen circling over Sefton Street and the surrounding area this evening as emergency services responded to an incident on the waterfront. Six police cars, several fire engines and the search and rescue team are currently at the scene on South Ferry Quay.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers were responding to a "live incident" in the area, but were unable to provide any more details at this stage.

Search and rescue team out on waterfront

This photo was taken at the scene this evening where search and rescue crews are stationed in a boat on the water.

One person who lives in the area told the ECHO: "It seems every emergency service vehicle possible is there.

"There's a car park that's just completely full of police. An ambulance is there as well."

People asked to turn around as sniffer dogs search area

People walking along the waterfront off South Ferry Quay have been asked to turn around by police.

One woman said she was told her scent may distract sniffer dogs who have been sent out to search the area.

Police helicopter scrambled to waterfront

A police helicoper was seen circling the waterfront at around 6pm this evening.

Police, fire engines and ambulance crews are currently in attendance on South Ferry Quay, along with the search and rescue team.
