King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and is stepping back from public duties, Buckingham Palace has said.
The announcement comes after the monarch, 75, underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate last month.
It is not connected with his recent surgery and is not prostate cancer, but doctors spotted it during the procedure, which saw him spend three nights at private London clinic.
President Joe Biden said he was “concerned” about the King and hope to speak with him soon, “God willing”.
Earlier this week, the monarch was seen waving and walking with the Queen by his side on his first public outing since the treatment.
On Sunday, Charles was pictured attending a church service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, giving a smile and wave to photographers outside.
He left with Queen Camilla just hours after the Princess of Wales was discharged from the same hospital after having had abdominal surgery nearly two weeks earlier.

What type of cancer has the King been diagnosed with?
The King has been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer. Buckingham Palace said that during Charles’ recent procedure for a benign prostate enlargement a “separate issue of concern” was noted.

Donald Trump wishes a full recovery to ‘wonderful’ king
Former president of the US Donald Trump has reacted to the British monarch’s health scare and described King Charles as a “wonderful man”.
“He is a wonderful man, who I got to know well during my presidency, and we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery!” Mr Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.
Mr Trump reportedly had a good working relationship with the King during parts of his administration.
It came as Joe Biden also expressed his concerns. “I’m concerned about him … just heard his diagnosis. But I’ll be talking to him God willing,” the US president said.

King to carry out behind the scene dealings with his famous red boxes
King Charles, who is known to be a workaholic, will carry out work behind the scenes despite formally stepping back from public duties after his cancer diagnosis.
The King will hold his weekly audience with prime minister Rishi Sunak and monthly Privy Council meetings, which can both be done remotely.
He is also expected to complete his paperwork with his famous red boxes – which contain his state business and official papers.
Certain meetings might be conducted virtually to reduce the risk of infecting the King during his treatment. At present, there are no intentions to designate counsellors of state to act on his behalf.
The King and Queen were expected to visit Canada in May, and Australia, New Zealand and Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in October.
But no date has been set for the King‘s return to full public duties and the princess is expected to be out of action and away from public duties until after Easter.

King Charles’ cancer diagnosis came as a second health scare to the royal family after the Princess of Wales underwent a major abdominal surgery.
Prince William stepped back temporarily from his royal role three weeks ago to juggle caring for his wife and their children following Kate’s operation.
William is set to return this week to resume public engagements, including carrying out an investiture at Windsor Castle on Wednesday and will also attend the London Air Ambulance annual fundraising evening gala in central London in his role as patron of the charity.

The Prince of Wales, the heir to the throne, is expected to carry out some duties on behalf of his father as King Charles undergoes treatment for cancer.
William is returning to official engagements this week, with Kensington Palace making its own announcement just a few hours before Buckingham Palace shared the King‘s diagnosis with the nation.
It is understood William is likely to undertake some duties on behalf of the King in addition to his own diary of engagements, and as a future king and the senior royal in the line of succession he would be expected to shoulder most of the responsibility.
The confirmation of William’s return will be seen as an attempt to signal stability within the monarchy despite the difficult times facing the royals.
No date has been set for the King‘s return to full public duties and the Princess of Wales is also expected to be out of action and away from public duties until after Easter.
