As 2023 draws to a close, we are looking back on wholesome moments that happened in and around Liverpool this year.

We have compiled some of the best moments into a video that spans the last 12 months. The ECHO previously reported how Paul Lyon, from St Helens, had a visit by two teens who asked him if he had dropped any money as they’d just found £180.

Paul told the ECHO: "I'd gone the shop to get some stuff to make breakfast and decided to get some money out. As I got home, within 30 seconds I heard the doorbell so answered it and there was a young couple standing there.

"They asked me if I'd dropped any money and I didn't know at the time but when I checked, I was missing the money. I thanked them and tried to give them some as a thank you but they wouldn't accept anything.”

The kind teenagers were later identified as Jarrod Pye and his partner Charlie.

Also making an appearance in the heartwarming compilation is baby Jaxon, from West Derby, who was caught giggling at his dog Clay barking on command. The heartwarming footage delighted ECHO viewers who loved to see the bond between the baby and his pet dog so early in life.

Sticking with dogs, and there's the cute animals which help Dr Karl Bates in the Gait facilities of the University of Liverpool. The project looks at movement in dogs and how different breeds of dogs vary in body shape and skeletal anatomy.

The hardworking dogs got X-rayed in order for the University to track their movements.

Also on the list is conservationists at Chester Zoo sharing their joy after capturing the amazing moment one of the world’s rarest mammals was born.

Footage shows a female eastern black rhino calf being born onto a bed of soft sand by new mum Zuri. Rhino experts say it’s “quite unusual” for a calf to be born in daylight, which gave keepers the unique opportunity to capture the special moment on camera.
