An intern who refused to chip in for their boss' expensive leaving gift is now receiving weird looks from their colleagues.
The woman posted on Reddit to explain the situation, stating that as an intern at a big company, not earning a huge amount of money, she didn't think it was expected of her to cough up cash for the gift. She added that she doesn't know her colleagues well, and will only be at the company for two months, the Mirror reports.
However, since ignoring the request to chip in, she's receiving weird looks from her fellow workers, who she suspects disapprove of her behaviour.

In his Reddit post, she said: "I (21F) am an intern in a big company, but still, an intern. I make a decent amount for the moment in career I'm but nothing outrageous.
"Last week my now former boss left the company and here's where the problem begin: he's a really nice dude, and it was good to work with him. One of the girls in the team had the idea to give him a goodbye-gift.
"The suggestion was sent to everyone's corporate email, and before I could even think of, in the day he left another email arrived stating how much each one in the team should pay for the expensive chocolate they picked. I kind of ignored it, but now I feel some weird looks towards me."
The user asked if it was unreasonable to not want to pay her share for the gift. She added: "It's not a huge amount, but it would make some difference in my balance, but the point is I do not ever agreed to that, and I'm here only 2 months so I barely know this ppl."

Most other users were on her side and agreed she should not have to contribute for the leaving gift. One person said: "You barely know these people and, right now, it you be a hardship for you to contribute. Feel free to ignore the weird looks."
Another said: "I am incredulous that someone even has the audacity to ask an intern to contribute." and a third said: "It's not okay to expect people to give a specific amount."
