A huge cordon was in place following a stand off between police and a man on a roof.

Merseyside Police were called to Nimrod Street in Walton at around 4pm on Thursday, February 16, following reports of a man on a roof. Once officers arrived they found he was on the roof of several properties on the road, and requested help from the North West Ambulance Service and fire service.

A cordon was put in place on surrounding roads including Gwladys Street, Andrew Street and Goodison Road.

Police negotiators as well as police dogs were seen in the area by eyewitnesses. Officers spoke with the man on the roof and after two hours he came down from the roof.

In the most recent update from Merseyside Police, they said the man was being assessed by emergency services at the scene. It's unclear if any arrests have been made.

A spokesperson from the force said: "We can confirm that emergency services were on Nimrod Street in Liverpool this afternoon. At around 4pm officers were called to a report of a man on the roof of several properties in the area.

"Officers put a containment in the area as a precaution whilst they engaged with the man. The man came down from a property on Andrew Street at around 5.50pm and is currently being assessed by emergency services at the scene.

"Thanks to all members of the public for their patience while this matter was being dealt with."
