Millions of people in the UK are dog owners, with the much-loved animal being the country's most common pet.
They really are "man's best friend" and many of us will share many things with our pups – our daily walks, our food, and even our beds. But experts have now issued a warning as we may not be doing so hygienically.
From mucky paws and moulting fur, to things like fleas and even worms, we could be sleeping in untold germs if we allow our dogs to get on or even into our beds.

Rhiannon Johns from Piglet in Bed told the ECHO all the things dog owners should do to keep our own beds clean and healthy.
She said: "Like humans, many dogs actually enjoy sleeping under the duvet as it is dark and cosy, however, with mucky paws and moulting fur, you will want to think about protecting the part of the bed you lay closest to. In order to keep your bottom sheet as clean as possible, I’d recommend laying down a blanket on top of the fitted sheet for your dog to lie on.
"This will keep your fitted sheet clean and relatively hair free. Make sure to keep this blanket for dog use only". Rhiannon also advises washing your sheets more regularly, if your dog sleeps in your bed, as well as keeping a spare pillow for them which you can then remove during the daytime.
It is vitally important you keep on top of their flea and worming routines, obviously for the sake of their health, but to avoid the risk of worm eggs or fleas spreading to your duvet, sheets or mattress. You should also hoover and air your bedding between washes and opt for linen bedding as this has "natural antimicrobial properties" and a "natural ability to regulate temperatures and wick away moisture".
