The Met Office has issued a fresh warning as more ice and snow is predicted for Liverpool and the rest of the north west of England.

It is the latest in a string of warnings amid a cold snap that has hit the UK this week. More snow and ice is also forecast for Scotland.

Snow started to fall on Liverpool on Wednesday, March 8, as forecasters predicted with the first flurries of snow fall recorded at around 1pm. There is a yellow snow warning in place today (Thursday, March 9) and Friday, March 9.

Now Met Office forecasters say further snowfall has the potential to cause disruption Saturday evening into Sunday. A yellow snow and ice warning is in place from 3pm on Saturday until 6am on Sunday (March 11 and 12).

People can expect travel delays, including cancelled bus and train services, and a "small chance" of power cuts. People are also being urged to take care on pavements and other icy surfaces.

The Met Office predicts the weather will then turn milder as Sunday progresses. Highs of 10C (that feel more like 7C) are forecast for 3pm.

It is then predicted to be "unsettled on Monday with rain, perhaps snow and stronger winds."
