Away from the screen, Michelle is happily married to reality TV star, Mark Wright. Mark took to Instagram to heap praise on his wife after the success of her latest project.

He said: "I can’t tell you how happy and proud I am for this incredible woman". He added: "Watching her nerves leaving the soap that made her over a decade ago, trying so hard to be taken seriously as an actor, moving into big serious dramas as her career has moved forward has been such an important thing to her.

"The hours and hours late at night reading scripts, after 15 hour days, attacking emotional and mentally draining scenes, living away from her family on the other side of the world, being told no, no and no time after time, worrying that her performance is going to be slandered in the media after all of the above, believe me isn’t easy but she keeps going and keeps growing, always smiling!!"

The two regularly share insights into their happy life together. However, Michelle has previously revealed they may never have become an item had he not loved her dogs. She told the Mirror: "I am a massive dog lover.

"My sausage dog has been with me since I was 21. Until you get your own dog you don’t realise how much love you have for your pets.

“Mark is a dog person, massively. He had to be to even go on a date with me. The most important things in my life are my dogs."

Before she fell in love with Mark, Michelle was previously in a relationship with The Wanted's Max George, former Emmerdale actor Anthony Quinlan and X Factor's Brad Howard. Although Michelle is now in an established TV star and has been in the limelight for 15 years, her life could have gone in a very different path.

Michelle landed her star making role in Corrie in just her second audition and was previously working on a makeup counter in Selfridges. She was just 20 when she decided to take the leap and try out acting when she felt “lost about what I wanted to do” after leaving school.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, she signed up for weekly lessons at the Manchester School Of Acting with the intention of trying to make it as an actress for a year. She said: "I thought, ‘At least I can look back and think I tried'."

Coronation Street was only the second audition she was put forward for and just a few weeks after trying out for the part, she sat down with the show's producer.

She said: "They put six heavy scripts down in front of me. It was a thud on the table and the next thing I heard was, ‘Congratulations, you’ve got the role of Tina.’ It hit me like a ton of bricks. I never believed for one second I’d get the role."

Two weeks later, she stepped onto the famous street for the first time but confessed to being incredibly nervous and "overwhelmed". She said: "I was a huge Corrie fan, as was my whole family, so it was a big deal.

"It was so quick. I couldn’t get my head round it. I had to leave my job at Selfridges, learn all these lines. Walking onto the cobbles for the first time was so overwhelming. It was my first official job. I didn’t even know which chair to sit in when we went into the green room."
