Air fryers have become increasingly popular over the last few years and people have been experimenting with what they can make in them.

Known for being quick and making food crispy with little fat and oil, they have become a go to for busy people looking for tasty snacks and fast meals. It also means many people have been making a wide variety of recipes, from Nutella lava cakes and two ingredient doughnuts to breakfasts and cauliflower curries.

Rebecca Bebbington, consumer expert at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “Air fryers are still as popular as ever and a lot of people are only just realising how quick and convenient they are. The surprising thing is, a lot of people still aren’t using their air fryer to its full potential. There are a ton of foods that can be made using an air fryer that people wouldn’t have thought of.

"That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of foods that are air fryer friendly which might surprise some people. Things like a quiche, macaroni and cheese and even eggs are all foods that can be made in little time in the air fryer."

Eggs

Arguably the biggest surprise of them all is eggs. Boiled eggs are the easiest to make but you can also use your air fryer to make fried and scrambled eggs too.

Macaroni and cheese

Pasta is probably one of the last things you would think to make in your air fryer. Place your uncooked pasta into your air fryer along with some water, heavy cream, seasoning and cheese and mix it all together ensuring that the pasta is covered.

The key to this is letting it cool for around five minutes in the end so that the sauce thickens up. You’ll also want to give this a stir halfway through.

Cakes

Baked goods like cakes and muffins can also be made in the air fryer. Of course, the size of the cake you can make will depend on the size of your air fryer, you’ll need to ensure that your cake tin can sit in there comfortably.

Wraps

The air fryer can be used to achieve that perfect crispy, golden wrap too. Just fold up your wrap like a burrito to avoid any of the filling falling out, spray it with some fry light or spread some butter over it and then place it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes until golden.

Tortilla chips

Using your air fryer to make things like tortilla chips gives you a much healthier version of the snack as it’s made with air rather than being deep-fried. Simply brush your small tortilla wraps in some olive oil and cover in seasonings of your choice like salt and tajin and cut into pieces. Cook these in the air fryer until golden brown.

Jacket potatoes

The classic jacket potato will be done in just 40 minutes when made in the air fryer compared to the oven. This is a really great dinner option for busy families although the downside is that you may not be able to fit too many potatoes in the air fryer depending on the size you own.

Cinnamon rolls

The circulation of air in the air fryer is what makes foods come out crispier than if they were to be made in the oven. When baked in the air fryer cinnamon rolls come out airy, light and extra flaky and crispy.

Grilled cheese sandwiches

When made in the oven, grilled cheese sandwiches can often come out a little soggy. For maximum crisp place these in the air fryer instead. Not only will it come out crispier, but it will also be cooked a lot quicker than if it was in the oven.

Quiche

Making a quiche in the air fryer actually requires very minimal effort. Line your air fryer with a silicone liner and lay your pastry on top of it. In a bowl simply whisk together your eggs, milk, seasoning and other ingredients of your choice and transfer this on to the pastry. Top this with cheese and carefully slide the air fryer closed and cook for around 25 minutes at 180 degrees.
