We've all heard the common advice to ease the pain of a jellyfish sting is the urinate on it – but do we know if that is actually true?
One paramedic has taken a deep dive into the myth and debunked it by explaining what people should really do if they ever find themselves stung by a jellyfish. Taking to TikTok, the man re-enacted a situation he's come across before, reports BirminghamLive.
In the TikTok, the paramedic assured the other characters, also played by himself: "There's actually a pretty simple way to ease the pain!" One of the characters answers: "Pee? We already did that […] but that didn't work. Now we just don't know what to do!"

Shocked by what he'd just been told, the paramedic shouted: "Water! You just soak it in hot water! That's it!" The paramedic captioned the TikTok: "Real things I’ve heard as a Paramedic. Yes, people really do this."
The short clip has since gone viral after racking up more than 13.5m views since it was first posted at the weekend. Many thanked the paramedic for this tip, one user commented: "I actually didn't know hot water helped, but now I do!"
A second said: "I have NEVER heard of hot water for a jellyfish sting!" Others admitted that they first heard the myth after watching an episode of US sitcom Friends. The episode is from season four and sees Chandler, Monica and Joey take a trip to the beach.
One TikTok user said: "I blame the beach episode of Friends." Another added: "Friends made me think this was a real solution." A third wrote: "It's all because of that one episode of Friends!"
