Forecasters are predicting some sunshine and warmth could return to Liverpool and beyond as we enter October.

The Met Office suggests the weather will be a mixed bag this week, with rain for much of Monday afternoon and into Tuesday before some drier spells across Wednesday until Friday. Looking further ahead meteorologists predict "a split in conditions".

Its long-range forecast continues: "Further rain is expected in north-western areas, which could turn heavy, particularly over higher, westwards-facing ground and strong winds are also possible in these areas. Southern areas, in contrast, are likely to remain much drier with light winds and some clear spells, which could lead to some overnight patches of mist and fog.

"Temperatures are likely to be above average for many, especially so in the south where some unusually warm temperatures for October are possible. These temperatures are likely to trend downward toward middle of the month, with the northwest-southeast split also slowly becoming less distinct as the weather becomes generally more changeable."

Elsewhere forecaster Accuweather predicts 22C and sunshine this Saturday, October 7, with just a 4% chance of rain. This comes after, it says, highs of 18C and rain on Friday (October 6). Looking ahead to Sunday, October 8, things are then set to turn stormy.

Accuweather predicts highs of 15C with "strong thunderstorms in the morning' cloudy with rain and a thunderstorm in the afternoon".
