England’s Alex Greenwood feels like a ‘big sister’ to the rest of the team

England Lioness Alex Greenwood has gone from playing football outside her nan's house in Bootle to helping her team make it to the World Cup Final in more ways than one.

Alex, 29, will be competing at Stadium Australia in Sydney in England's first World Cup final since 1966. Due to the time difference, it will kick-off in the UK at 11am.

As this isn’t Alex’s first time playing in a World Cup – with her first being in 2015, she has said that she sees herself as like a big sister to the younger lionesses. With her wealth of experience behind her, she looks after the other ‘girls if they need anything or any advice’.

A video was shared last night on a Lioness TikTok fan page of Alex doing a ‘Diary Room’ interview. The video has since racked up over 10k views.

In the video she explained just how hard the World Cup can be for the players as they are away from family for such a long period of time and being on the other side of the world can be ‘tough at times’. Alex explained: “Chloe is like a little sister, she’s a special girl.

“I feel like a duty to look after her as a big sister. You know it's my third world cup, I’ve been here, I’ve done it before.

“I know what's expected, I know at times it can get tough. Being away from family and on the other side of the world and the time zone, it can get tough at times.

“Obviously I look after the girls if they need someone or if they need any advice on anything. Like I said, it’s experience and one day that’ll be them doing it to the younger girls so it’s part of the job.
