A full garden renovation could cost thousands and in a cost of living crisis, people are looking to save money where they can while still getting the results they desire.

It comes after research by the firm found online searches for 'cheap garden makeover' more than doubled in the last month.

The trend of more sustainable garden designs is on the rise and can also be financially sound using these tips.

1. Use Environmentally friendly materials

Making patios and garden furniture out of the likes of recycled plastic, reclaimed wood, or natural stone can have a lower environmental impact than materials that require significant resources to produce.

2. Water conservation

Sustainable patios are designed to recirculate water using materials like permeable paving stones or gravel, allowing rainwater to seep into the ground and recharge the water table. Drip irrigation systems and water butts can also be used to use water in a mindful way, bringing savings to water bills as a bonus.

3. Energy conservation

Paul Stringer from Norton Finance said: "Incorporating features like solar-powered lighting, natural shade from trees or a pergola, or strategic placement of the patio to take advantage of natural breezes all go towards reducing energy costs."

4. Recycling and composting

Using recycling and composting stations in garden design can help to reduce waste and promote sustainable living.

5. Create a haven for wildlife

Built-in bird tables, bee-friendly shrubbery and using native plants can all help local wildlife to thrive.
