DWP weekly pay rates from April for Universal Credit, PIP and other benefits

BySpotted UK

Jan 6, 2024

A series of benefits are set to see a rate rise in April, including state pension and universal credit.

State Pensions will rise by 8.5% on April 8, as per the Triple Lock policy, while most working age and disability benefits will increase by the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate figure of 6.7%.

The proposed new rates, including payments delivered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) such as Tax Credits and Child Benefit, will be formally confirmed in Parliament shortly after the winter recess ends on January 8. This means people in receipt of the State Pension or benefits including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Carer’s Allowance and Attendance Allowance can start to factor in the increased amount into their household budgets from the end of April – reports the Daily Record.

This is because most benefits are paid in arrears and the first payment after the uprating usually contains a mix of the old and new rates. It's also important to be aware that while the Pension Credit income threshold will increase from April 8, the Benefit Cap will not be increasing.
