A DJ has sent a three word message to Scousers ahead of a brand new Halloween show in Liverpool.

Low Steppa, who’s real name is Will Bailey, produces house music and has performed at festivals across the world from London to Amsterdam. He will be performing at a Halloween show hosted by Cream next week in Liverpool city centre, alongside Sam Divine, W Harrison, Amelia Preston, and Lucia Cors.

He found his love for the genre from used video cassette tapes, discovering the work of north west DJ Stu Allen, who died last year. Speaking to the ECHO, Will said: “I think it was a tape I was given at school. You used to get these cassettes that had been passed around.

“I had a Stu Allen tape. It just intrigued because before that I’d been listening to stuff like Nirvana, rock music. Hearing that, it was so different. I was fascinated by how they played the music.”

Will argues there was a lack of knowledge when he was growing up about how to become a DJ – and many looked down on it as a profession. He said: “Everything was a bit manual. You couldn't just go on YouTube.

“I don't know, if I was a kid now, if I would have been drawn to it. We all liked the same music growing up but no one wanted to be a DJ.

“It's something that’s popular to do now. Then, it was something that weirdos did.”

Creamfields, which originated from a Liverpool nightclub, held its festival at the old airfield in Speke before its growth saw it move to Daresbury, Warrington. For Will, the festival has been a crucial part of his musical career.

He said: “When I started DJ’ing in 1999, I had mates who would travel and go to Cream. Creamfields has always been the big dance festival and it still is.

“It was the first festival I did in 2001. It's always been a massive brand even when it started, it's part of my history.

“I still remember when I went, seeing DJs like Yousef, David Morales. It helped sculpt me.”

Liverpool also holds special memories for Will. Originally from Cannock in the Midlands, he is glad to be performing slightly closer to home after several gigs abroad, and to be returning to a city ideal for DJ’ing.

He said: “It's exciting to come back to Liverpool. It's always a good one, the crowds are always up for it.”

“I think my last show before covid was the Williamson Tunnels.

“It was really good, I still remember, it was going mad in there. I love Liverpool.”

Will is unsure whether he will be dressing up himself for the Halloween show, but is expecting to see some “mad outfits”. Going forward, he is determined to stay at the top of his game.

He said: “I'm really thankful, being able to do this and having such a long stint of it. I believe this year is my best year yet and I hope it continues.

“I don't take it for granted. I really want to smash it every time.”

Cream Halloween will take place on Saturday October 28 at the Grand Central Hall in the city centre.
