A cordon was placed around a block of flats after a person smelled chemicals.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to The Green in Broad Green just after 3pm following reports of somebody smelling chemicals. Two fire engines arrived at the scene a short time later and a cordon was put in place.

Merseyside Police also attended the scene to help maintain the cordon. There were initial reports people were evacuated from their homes, but this has not been confirmed by the emergency services. One witness told the Liverpool ECHO: "People have been evacuated due to some toxic smell or gas. They've been told to leave their homes."
