People have been confronted with a strange smell at a Merseyside train station.
Commuters reported an acrid odor coming from inside Lime Street Station yesterday (November 27). With one person claiming that they were almost "sick" after stepping off the train.
Network Rail have apologised to passengers for the concern the smell has caused. The rail operator explained that the smell- which is strongest at the lower levels of the station- is due to a damaged drainage pipe.

The drain in question, removes water run-off from nearby streets. Network Rail said they are working to fix the problem as soon as possible.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are aware of the strong smell that was in Liverpool Lime Street Station this morning and would like to apologise to passengers for any concern caused.
"The issue is linked to a damaged drainage pipe and pump, that removes water run-off from nearby streets. We are working closely with Liverpool City Council and hope to have this resolved as soon as possible”.
