Brianna Ghey's family are "overwhelmed" by the "support and compassion" they've received from people across the country.

Hundreds of people gathered near St George's Hall in Liverpool city centre on Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil in memory of the "one of a kind" teenager. Brianna, 16, was found stabbed in Linear Park, Culcheth, Warrington at 3.13pm on Saturday (February 11).

A 15-year-old boy from Leigh and a 15-year-old girl from Warrington appeared at Liverpool Crown Court for the first time on Thursday after being charged with the murder of the 16-year-old Birchwood High School pupil.

A trial date for July 10, with an estimated length of three weeks, was set by Judge David Aubrey KC. He remanded both teenagers – who cannot be named for legal reasons – into youth detention ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 2.

Vigils have been held across the country for Brianna, a transgender girl. Cheshire Police said Brianna's family have been overwhelmed by the messages of support they've received from people across the UK and beyond.

DCI Adam Waller, who has been the Senior Investigating Officer in the case, said: “I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the community of Culcheth for their support in relation to the investigation.

“We have been inundated with pieces of information from members of the community wanting to help and assist the enquiry. Many of our officers have been approached to offer their best wishes to us and, especially, to Brianna’s family.

“I know that the family have also been overwhelmed by the messages of support, positivity and the compassion across the country and beyond – and the thoughts of everyone at the Constabulary remains firmly with them.”
