A black cab and a Toyota were involved in a smash that resulted in debris scattering over a major Merseyside road.

Merseyside Police were called shortly after midnight today, Saturday, February 11 to reports of a crash near to the Potter's Barn Park in Waterloo. A spokesperson for the force told the ECHO only slight injuries were reported from the crash.

The road is the primary route between Southport and Liverpool. Images taken at the scene by an ECHO reporter showed a heavily damaged taxi to the side of the road.

The back of the black cab appears to have taken the impact of the crash. Photos showed the passenger door on the right side of the car smashed in. The roof of the cab had also buckled upwards. A Toyota was also involved in the crash.

The ECHO understands the road was reopened around 3am.
