Attempted murder suspect named as man fights for life

A man has been charged with attempted murder in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police confirmed they found a 58-year-old man with a head injury on Eaton Road, West Derby, in the early hours of Wednesday, January 24. He was taken to hospital where he currently remains in a critical condition.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of s18 assault, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal damage. Liam Anthony Elms, of Whiston Lane, in Huyton, has been charged with attempted murder, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and resisting arrest.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A 40-year-old man has been charged after a man was found on Eaton Road in West Derby with a serious head injury. At around 1am on Wednesday 24th January a 58-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition after he was found outside a property on Eaton Road with a serious head injury.
"A man was later arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal damage. Liam Anthony Elms, aged 40, of Whiston Lane in Huyton has been charged with attempted murder, criminal damage, assaulting an emergency worker and resisting arrest. He will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court today (Friday 26 January) to be remanded into custody."
