You’ve probably heard of red flags and green flags in relationships – but now there’s a new flag colour to know about in the dating world.

Red flags indicate troublesome traits in a person, while green flags signal the opposite. Beige flags sit in the middle of these, and were first coined by TikTok user @itscaito last year.

She described a beige flag in a video as a “sign you’re probably very boring”. Examples of beige flags she gave were hating coriander or pineapple on pizza, constant references to mainstream sitcoms, and using puppies as your sole personality trait.

Since that video, which was liked more than 70,000 times, @itscaito has started rating people’s dating profiles according to the amount of beige flags. In recent days, more have become aware of the term and have started suggesting their own beige flags.

TikTok user @popomatys said her boyfriend’s beige flag was not asking for further details, such as not asking his sister where her new job is located or knowing the full information behind his friend's break-up. The video of this has garnered more than 10m views on the platform since it was posted three days ago.

However, others have disagreed with the exact meaning of the term. One Twitter user said beige flags should be considered "neutral" instead of dull and off-putting. Another added: "Actually beige flags seem more cute, like weird quirks someone you date does that are kind of beigey and weird but you love them for anyway."
