A nan is searching for an "angel" man who came to her aid after she had a fall in Liverpool city centre.

Joan Prescott had just left Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, where she is currently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, when she fell over outside TJ Hughes on London Road. The 87-year-old, from Melling, said as she fell and her handbag went flying across the pavement, she felt a man put his hand on hers and he said: "Stay where you are, I'm here to look after you.

"I'm not going anywhere. It doesn't matter how long it takes, I will stay with you. You tell me when it's time for you to get up."

Joan said: "I said 'thank you' and then after a few minutes I said 'I'm ready now'. He lifted me up, and I looked at him and said 'by jove it was worth that fall to meet a lovely man like you.'"

Joan said she's not stopped thinking about the man since what happened and wants to find him to thank him for his kindness.

She said: "I'm calling him an angel. I've told my vicar and I've told my priest, and they said someone was watching over you.

"I just think the way those words he said them so gently – 'I'm here to look after you. I'm not going anywhere. It was beautiful."

"There's beautiful people out there – lovely people."
